On Monday, Fontaines D.C. shared "Where Is Gone?", the song people have been wondering about since the Dopamine Chamber tracklist dropped in September: a duet with Rosalía, and the first time the Dublin band has given a featured-guest credit on one of its albums. It's the third preview of the record after "Marianne" and "Tongue" (we covered the album announcement here), and it sits at number eight on the tracklist, ahead of the album's release this Friday, October 16 on XL Recordings.

The song had a head start: it leaked over the weekend after white-label 7" copies turned up at album listening events, then arrived officially a few days after Rosalía's appearance on SNL.

Strings, echoes and two very different voices

Dopamine Chamber has so far been described as a colder, more synthetic record. "Where Is Gone?" shows another side of it: a big, dramatic, string-laden ballad built on echoing guitars and sweeping orchestral crescendos, produced by James Ford like the rest of the album. Stereogum hears Bond-theme drama in it, along with a faint echo of Rosalía's 2025 album LUX. The two voices don't melt into each other so much as contrast, Grian Chatten's and Rosalía's lines intertwining while keeping their own colour. Both sing in English.

An unexpected pairing, on paper

For guitarist Carlos O'Connell, the collaboration is personal. He has recently been reconnecting with his Spanish heritage, and says he has followed Rosalía since her debut album, admiring how she keeps a Spanish musical tradition alive — something that felt close, to him, to what the band has tried to do with Irish music. Stereogum also points to the long history of solidarity between Ireland and Catalonia, which gives the meeting an extra layer beyond the music.

It's another turn from a band that has spent five albums refusing to repeat itself, and a first taste of how Dopamine Chamber will sound once the full record lands on Friday.

Album: Dopamine Chamber, out October 16, 2026 on XL Recordings — pre-save / pre-order.
