Some artists refuse to exist on the market's own terms. ||||||||||||||||||||, pronounced barcode (/ˈbɑːkəʊd/), takes that refusal to its logical extreme: an unreadable name, a deliberately erased identity, an online presence stripped down to a Bandcamp page and a handful of social accounts. Barcode defines itself as "a post-identitarian prototype of a musician of the upcoming modern era, which lines up independently as a product in the internet's display" — a statement that reads less like a biography than a sharp critique of the digital star system.


Based in Germany but gravitating between Berlin, London and Paris, |||||||||||||||||||| operates in a sonic space where ambient, IDM, downtempo and future garage intersect, with regular forays into post-dubstep and what some listeners call brainjazz: a cerebral, textured electronics that speaks to the mind as much as the body.


A prolific presence on Bandcamp, the project has been releasing steadily: Light Harmony (with JAGUA and Tyger Blue, March 2026), I Wanna Be Brave and All Quiet On The Frontal Lobe (early 2026), Pocket Orchestra with Klsr (2024), each piece reinforcing a consistent vision, resolutely at odds with the logic of disposable content.

The latest video from ||||||||||||||||||||, directed by Shaheryar Malik, has just dropped, and it lives up to the project's ambitions. The accompanying note reads like a statement of intent for the entire endeavour:

"Human beings love the crowd because it carries them. In the mass, the self dissolves. Boundless, connected, ecstatic. Music, festivals, stadiums, protests: moments when the I briefly vanishes into the 'we'. Yet as soon as the noise fades, the separation returns. Each one retreats to their small kingdom of opinions, pride, and fear. This double standard is profoundly human. We long for unity but fear the loss of individuality. We celebrate togetherness as long as it doesn't demand that we surrender our ego. Perhaps that is our tragic brilliance: that we can sing together, even though we barely listen to one another."

The music mirrors the text: dense, suspended electronics that withholds emotional resolution. No drop, no easy catharsis, just the tension between pull and withdrawal that the words describe so precisely.
